Horse Day is a free, one-day, public event designed to educate people of all ages about horses and provides visitors with the opportunity to experience horses up close and personal. Horse Day includes educational stations, riding and driving demonstrations and information displays in an effort to promote horses and equestrian activity in Ontario.
Toronto Horse Day
The OEF proudly hosts Toronto Horse Day on the first Saturday of June at the Horse Palace, Exhibition Place. In partnership with the Riding Academy at the Horse Palace, Toronto Police Services Mounted Unit and Greenhawk Harness and Equestrian Supplies, the OEF provides Torontonians a unique equine experience.

What: Join emcee Daniel Fathers, host of Canada’s Greatest Know It All, at Toronto Horse Day. This free family event features a variety of demonstrations, interactive exhibits, games, special guests and much more! Here’s what you can expect this year:
- Tour the Toronto Police Mounted Unit’s stables
- Watch riding demonstrations featuring different disciplines and breeds
- Meet horses and learn more about Ontario’s various horse associations and riding clubs
- Learn what a day in the life of a horse is like with the Riding Academy
- Meet famous equestrians in our VIP area, including Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame jockey Sandy Hawley
- Step back in time at the Famous Horses exhibit celebrating legendary show jumpers Big Ben and Hickstead, as well as racing greats Cam Fella and Northern Dancer
- See rare Northern Dancer memorabilia at the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame’s exhibit
- Learn from the experts at Greenhawk and Tipperary how to properly fit a riding helmet
- Get help finding a riding stable or coach in your area
- Find upcoming horse shows where you can go to cheer on your favourite riders
- Activities for kids including a colouring activity and stick horse class (see instructions below to build your stick horse)
- Story time with Norman, the equine star of a children’s book by the same name about a horse that overcomes all odds to jump again after losing his sight in one eye.
- Watch a farrier work to learn how a horse’s hooves are cared for
- Horse health 101 with Equine Guelph and McKee-Pownall Equines Services
- And much more!

Parents and kids are encouraged to put their creative talents to work and create a custom stick horse and bring your creation to Toronto Horse Day! All kids are invited to participate in a Stick Horse Class in the ring for prizes!

If you could design your dream horse, what would it look like? Using your favourite colours, show us by colouring in the horse provided. Be creative and use anything you like – markers, crayons, pencil crayons, paint, glitter etc.! Everyone who brings their completed Dream Horse to Toronto Horse Day on Saturday June 1 will receive a special prize!

Ottawa Horse Day
In partnership with the OEF and the Wesley Clover Foundation, Equine Canada will be hosting the first annual Ottawa Horse Day at the former Nepean National Equestrian Park.
