Quest for Gold’s overarching goal is to increase the performance and number of Ontario athletes competing at the highest national and international levels, thereby contributing to the improved performance of Canada at international competitions. The program supports Ontario’s amateur athletes through direct financial assistance, enhanced coaching, and enhanced training and competitive opportunities.
Launched in January 2006, the Quest for Gold program has realized a 50% increase in the quantity of athletes earning Canada Cards, meaning more athletes are representing Ontario on Canada’s national teams. Such was the case at the recent Pan Am Games, where 40% of Team Canada athletes were Ontario residents, while 34% of the Para Pan Am team were from Ontario.
